WhatsApp has introduced an innovative way for users to express themselves by adding musical flair to their Status updates. Starting March 28, 2025, the platform now enables you to attach short music clips to your disappearing photos, videos, or text posts, blending nostalgia with modern social sharing.
Similar to Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status lets you share moments that vanish after 24 hours. The new update adds a music note icon to the Status creation toolbar. Tapping this icon opens a library of millions of licensed tracks. Users can select a song and trim clips to match their content: photos support 15-second audio snippets, while videos accommodate up to 60 seconds of music.
This feature mirrors Meta’s recent musical integrations across its apps, such as Instagram’s profile songs and Notes. However, WhatsApp emphasizes privacy: all music shared in Status updates is protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring only your contacts can view (and hear) your posts. Even WhatsApp itself cannot access the songs you choose.
The global rollout is already underway, with availability expanding gradually over the next few weeks. Whether sharing a workout anthem, a nostalgic throwback, or a trending hit, this update transforms Status into a dynamic, multisensory experience reminiscent of Myspace’s profile song era—but with enhanced security.
